We’ll start this week off with another cocktail recipe for you! This time it is the classic Cuban Mojito, which is a highball drink. If you don’t know what a highball is, it is a mixed drink that is typically served in a tall glass with a spirit base and a significant portion of a non-alcoholic mix. This cocktail mainly consists of five ingredients, which are white rum, sugar, lime juice, club soda, and mint. This drink is refreshingly delicious with citrus and mint flavors that balance out the rum very well!

Also, here’s a history lesson on the Mojito for ya! The story goes that African slaves created the drink while working in the sugar cane fields in Cuba in the 1800s. The word “mojito” comes from the African word “mojo,” and it means to cast a spell. Another story says the cocktail found its influences from an earlier drink called the “El Draque,” which is named after Sir Francis Drake who tried to invade Cuba in the 1500s. However, it was not until the mid-1800s, the Mojito became popular when the rum company, Bacardi was established. Also, it was author Ernest Hemingway who popularized the drink in the U.S. after falling in love with it at a bar in Cuba. Although the true story of how the Mojito began is not exactly known, it has become classic favorite for many people all around the world. With this recipe, you can now make it at home, and enjoy the rest of your summer with this cool, refreshing drink!
